self-reflective mashups / rapidchar

Point 1: Long after mash ups are edgy, I have knocked out a mash-up EP after a whole weekend of work (why yes, it is every dodgy in quality, but as a work I like it. It flows nicely from start to finish, and the end segues eerily well into the beginning without having intended that.) Even better still, rather than mashing up two artists that people thing are cool, it’s me mashing myself up with music I like from Beck, Bjork, The Smashing Pumpkins and Veruca Salt. At a whole 6 songs long though, it’s nice demo of what one can do with Acid’s beatmapping, some acapellas and more time than sense.
Grab it off Megaupload before the RIAA does.
Point 2: Rapidshares are now up on nekodashi. They aren’t a premium account, so they’ll die after 10 downloads though. Oh well.

Specifically of “Transformer” of Maja’s The Amalgam Project.
Yes, it is in the Jump Up meets NYC Jungle style I seem to roll in usually for remixes. It’s great though, in large part because Maja’s a tight rapper.

Things have obviously been, well, less than awesome for me this month. Actually, I’d go so far as to say it’s been one of the most emotionally strenuous points in my life so far. However, as the month draws to a close, there are some silver linings.
I am technically employed, as I’m doing some interface design and audio work for my friend Misu’s company. Granted, there won’t be money in it until the apps are built and on sale, but it’s something. It gives me an immediate point of focus that isn’t as weighty as my future (college choice) and family issues. Additionally, I’ve put XP on Rai’s laptop, condemning to Vista to death and allowing her to work independently on vocals again, and I’ve sent her a bunch of tracks to work with. Yet again, it’s another upbeat point of focus. Danielle’s got a place in Vancouver again too, and while that isn’t necessarily immediate, it’s nice that she’s relatively near again – just the thought lifts my spirits a bit.
To be fair, those positive developments don’t change the other things on my plate, and I obviously don’t want them to become distractions from the main tasks at hand, but still I’m glad to have the excuse to do some fun things too.

and I did way better interpretations of my own music, it’d probably be something like this:
Negative PH rehearses their reimagining of my song, Sea Of Stars, or as they’ve retitled it, SOS.
Oh well, I’m not two people, and they took the song straight to Awesomeville, where as mine lingers in Lazytown. They are apparently gonna do live shows, and as the video clearly shows, they’ll definitely be worth checking out.

Everything on nekodashi.info now also has Megaupload links. If that isn’t enough incentive to nose back by the site, my complete mc chris remixes from 2002-2005 are now uploaded as well.

another sign that God love you.” – Lupe Fiasco, “Real” from Food & Liquor
So, my grandfather has been buried in Duluth. That was last weekend for me. It’s still sort of weird to think about it. I imagine it’d be a heavier weight to bare if not for other goings on, though any time I really meditate on it it gets to me, and I cry.
My mom’s vision is currently messed up – a partially detached and torn retina tends to do that. She goes in for surgery next Wednesday. If you’re the praying type, now would be a good time.
I got a hold of Rai, finally dropped off her copies of Final Boss. Maybe with a little luck, we’ll actually get work done such that her album is done well before I go back to school. At the very least, she’ll have a laptop with XP on it, and thus a working microphone for recording. I think we have a much better idea of where it’s headed too, so that should also help in getting things done.
I need to start into sorting though which of the schools I want to go to. I have some days of nothing but long phone calls and boring office visits with college bureaucrats ahead of me. Thankfully, having friends to turn to at the end of those days, plus a good family and lovely girlifriend to talk to helps a lot. It helps me stay grounded, and that lifts me off the ground sometimes too.
It’s weird. Things haven’t been going great at all in a lot of ways lately. It’s been down right crap. Yet, it’s these troubles that remind that I am blessed to have so many good people around me who are there for me when I need them. I haven’t even tapped everyone on that account. I’m probably lucky like that.
To everyone who helps me out: Thanks.

Nekodashi’s Back/Pay for downloads?

So, as many people know, nekodashi has been down for a long time. Well, I recently picked up the nekodashi.info domain and I intend to eventually put the site back up. Now, this where things get interesting. I don’t think I’m going to buy hosting explicitly for it – I’ll probably just have it redirect to a sub-domain here at karlrolson.com. As such, any music available for free would probably just be hosted on various file sharing services (probably zshare with mirroring on megaupload and rapidshare.)
However, there is a service called PayLoadz that allows you to sell downloads containing anything that doesn’t violate their TOS, including music. My question is, would people willing to pay to download my albums via this service? Keep in mind, this could get stuff like Revision4920 available separately from the Complete Collection, and could even used to allow people to bypass the wait and hassle of the free download sites as well. Theoretically, it might even allow me to monetize individual tracks too.
TL;DR: who here would be interested in paying for deliciously DRM-free, 320kbps mp3 (or I could even do FLAC for some of the content) downloads?

In as much as my horseless carriage and I have returned to Kirkland. Amazingly, even though the Seattle-area had been long done with snowfall after I had arrived there, driving here seemed (still seems actually) sketchier than the driving I did in Spokane and Castlegar. Maybe it’s the fact that the temperatures hover around melting point, creating exceedingly treacherous and nasty conditions, though I’m inclined to say the people trying to push 40 on sideroad in their SUVs with California license plates may be a contributing factor as well.
Additionally, I have a new song on RhymeTorrents v.8, disc 3. It is available here. Lyrics after the break.

I also did a Drum n’ Bass remix of Random’s “Grow Up”. It’s raw, synthy and dance floor ready. Junglists, start your 1200s.
