…to shamelessly brag about being in 10th place on a list of The Top 10 Nerdcore Artists of All Time. Actually, really surprised that I managed to barely sneak on the list. There are certainly other artists in this genre who manage to lay down a more accessible and traditionally hiphop sound, and there are certainly mc’s who have recieved a lot more real world press attention, so I’m kind of surprised that some one as flagrantly experimental and niche as me managed to make it.

Of course, a lot more than that has happened while the site was down…

For starters, SakuraCon2007 came and went, which was fun as always, but it was even better this time because Nursehella was there too. I still feel kind of lame about not being able to find her something good in the dealers room for her birthday, but in general, the dealers room was the weak part of the convention – everyone had a similar line up of stuff, a lot of domestic stuff (thankfully, I did make it up to her after the fact.) Even the doujinshi booths were quite dull, yielding only one doujin that looked cool. However, I did do an interview with yet another Canadian radio program, this time for Hi Sci Fi which runs on SFU’s radio station. If nothing else, I was happy to get to spend some time with Nursehella.

SakuraCon was followed immediately by a show with a whole 10 people in attendance, 7 of which were friends or Rai and/or myself, so that really made it a little bleh. Big ups from the two people from Florida who turned out and the other fellow whose locale I do not know, but who also showed up. Hopefully next nerdcore show you guys catch is packed. Also, thank you Chop Suey staff for coming in for what turned out to be a flop of a show.

Speaking of packed nerdcore shows, I caught mc chris @ Chop Suey the week before SakuraCon (also with Nursehella, but also with my little bro and one of Nursehella’s friends in toe – quite the posse,) and that was really fun as always. mc chris always does a great live show, but if know who you are, he remembers that and is really cool to you too. It sounds like mc chris is doing a bit of an open call for producers, so hopefully I can do a beat or backing for his next CD. If not, it sounds like he’s quite an array of people already lined, so I’m eager to hear the result.

Later in the month, I caught the nerdcore supertour that is MC Frontalot, MC Lars and Optimus Rhyme, and since I caught it in Seattle, I was rewarded with special guests Beefy and Dust Collector. Now, I’d have to say, that show was uniformly awesome. Dust Collector led things off with a laid-back flow, Beefy came in after and got the crowd singing along via shear charisma, Optimus Rhyme rocked hard as usual, but then did the unusual thing of getting Beefy and later MC Frontalot on stage to do some guest mc work. Of course, then it was MC Lars time to shine, and this being the first time I saw him live, I was super-impressed – his live show rules. MC Frontalot closed the evening out with out of the best sets I’ve seen him lay down to date, and after a near riot about having to shut down early, Frontalot, Lars and Wheelie Cyberman of Optimus did the big “Nerdcore Rising” closer, which brought the house down.

After the show was done, I also ended up crashing an interview or three, one of which is right here in two parts (younger viewers beware of coarse language):

NW Nerdcore @ Frontalot Show Pt.1

NW Nerdcore @ Frontalot Show Pt.2

And after that I hung out with MC Frontalot and a couple of other Valued Suckers at the legendary Seattle club, the Mercury. However, it was HipHop night, so I wasn’t too obscenely out place (normally it’s quite goth at the Mercury.) It was pretty cool to hang out with Frontalot. Frontalot relayed some sage advice about touring (you can’t party or do anything,) and we all talked about movies. BTW, special thanks to the Valued Sucker who paid for everyone’s drinks (Tall Paul?) I really needed that Cranberry juice after that awesome nerdcore show.

I also made a trip back up to Canada later in the month, so I could hang out with Nursehella some more, do a little computer repair (IE: removing a fresh vista install and loading a fresh XP install on a new laptop,) and basically get a little bit of relaxation before I probably go crazy trying to get into a college. I managed to get some cool stuff while I was up there (Motoko from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Complex Figurine that’d normally list for atleast 40 for only 9 bucks, the May issue of Shoujo Beat,) and get hooked on Hot Gimmick. There was also some great restaurant attending, and plenty of Starbucks. All in all, another good time in Canada.

For those hoping for some new Karl music, I’m afraid I can’t provide much right now (though keep an I eye out, I have a lot in the pipeline,) but I can link to a few performance videos that only made it online after my site crashed:

Ultraklystron feat Nursehella – Shoujo n’ Shonen (3-15-07 show)

Ultraklystron – Mahou Shonen Theme(3-15-07 show)

Ultraklystron – Girls With Glasses (3-15-07 show)

Ultraklystron – Eighty Three (3-15-07 show)

Ultraklystron – Hearts Bangin’ (3-15-07 show)

Ultraklystron – Script Kiddie Blues (3-15-07 show)

PS: Glenn Case (friend of Liam Lynch of Sifl and Olly fame and Ring Leader of the Frontalittle Squad,) has released a simple how to guide on how to pronounce Ultraklystron.
