Lots of singing, cause it’s all chorus no verse. ETA for CD hopefully this Saturday. Hopefully.

I am now 23.
Anyway, here is a picture of my new mp3 player. Not technically a birthday present per se, but I’m counting it as one anyway:

I also have a Lite-On LightScribe DVD burner headed my way, which will hopefully be here before the weekend. Yay for self-produced CDs and such.

Video of Nerdcore Renagade Show @ PS3 Best Buy Line

It’s hard to rap when it’s cold, but I still sold CDs. It contains 4 songs – 2 off revision, 2 off Opensource, some between set banter and some working out mix issues while rapping. At least the crowd dug it by the time all was said and done, not only buying CDs as mentioned before, but so much so they even asked me to autograph their CDs without prompting from me and they brought me two water bottles too so I could keep rapping. As such, I had fun too. Hopefully the fellow shooting the documentary about waiting in line for a PS3 will have some footage up eventually as well, because that’d be awesome.

first half of the headline: Anime Pulse bumps my beats as 4Kids dives into the red for the first time.
second half of the headline: 9pm Toys’R’Us, nerdcore show. might be fun.

Because I’ve decided to hold off on Opensource until the Tycho collab comes together or January 2007 (which ever comes first,) I’ve decided to cut an EP/Album that’ll feature 8 songs geared around a central theme (namely the various facets of nerd love) and 8 songs that were at one point intended to be featured on Opensource but ultimately ended up not fitting due to space constraints, but are still pretty good nonetheless. Basically, a 16 song effort at a minumum (I might add a few hard-to-define odds and ends and/or cut some additional remixes,) and it should be out within the month if all goes well. It will be called one of the two names in the title, and it will also feature my collaboration with Nursehella. A page now exists for it here:

Good: The rhymetorrents halloween album is now available for download.
Better: It was slashdotted.
Wait n/m: Slashdot on average apparently doesn’t much like nerdcore.
Oh, well here’s a direct download link to my contribution. It’s about bad horror movies, and it features gratuitous references to Tsukuyomi MoonPhase. Also, I make light of the works of Uwe Boll.

(Well, unless you’re Feather or Nursehella, in which case, this is old news, because you’ve already heard everything I have done for Opensource. Well, barring one track I just can’t seem to get a good mix for.)
The new version of “Eighty Three,” now with improved announciation and a great vocal hook added by my friend Zoe, is now up, as is “It’s The Beat,” a song about eating a french fry in Starbucks, if it’s about anything at all. Why now? Because I figure they’re as good they are gonna get, and I have certain persons requesting that certain of these tracks turn up for download because they can’t wait for the album to go up.
However, I think OpenSource as a whole is effectively done outside of that one track I referenced earlier. It’s pretty likely that I’m pushing the Tycho collab back because while it’s going to be great, it’s not going to wrapped anytime soon, and the Nurse Hella collab will probably make more sense on her CD (though it’s going to be great too, make no mistake about that,) so that leaves OpenSource pretty much done. I’m not sure whether people can or even should have to deal with almost 80 minutes of pretty much just me, but that’s probably how it’s going to work for better or worse.
And, yeah, those tracks above are 128kbps-licious, but nice new 320kbps trackage from me will be on the RhymeTorrents Halloween LP when it comes out. In my song for that comp, I make fun of Uwe Boll, and I make a Harry Potter reference in the first line of the chorus, so I figure I’ve it should appeal vaguely to my constituency. I’ve also hedged my bets by referencing a show I recently reviewed that happened to be very fitting for Halloween too.
So, yeah, expect OpenSource Lyricist news somewhere in here soon. Maybe even a release date.

I am extremely verbose. Pleonastic even. Still, thank you Z from Hipster, Please for interviewing me.
Meanwhile, I’m in Kirkland (ear infection == not staying in Spokane this week.) If you have anything you need to get a hold of me for, now would be a great time at I’m almost definitely available. Things like recording vocals, or giving me my laptop, or generally even hangin out can be done. 😉

So, I Just Finished Bingeing Threw Honey & Clover…

…Or rather, through the last 10 episodes of season 1 and all of season 2. I’ve always been a sucker for more character driven anime, and for anime with more realistic settings. I mean, I wouldn’t have had series like Haibane Renmei, Twin Spica and Koi Kaze in my top 5, with Haibane sitting at what felt like a permanent number 1. However, Honey & Clover just might have aced it out. Maybe it’s just because it resonated so directly with my current life (student in a transitional phase and so on.) I mean, after a certain point it felt like I was watching my past, present and possible futures play out before my eyes almost. It was simulateously very hard to watch, yet so compelling and frank I felt that I had to finish it.
But really, it’s an excellent show – like I said, maybe even my new number 1. I mean, the series is loaded with visual cheats, and I can break down the direction easily at points, but yet, I could still get lost in it, I could still be swept up in it. Only a handful of series can grab me so entirely that I can ignore, nay, embrace it’s flaws and formulas. Honey & Clover joins that club. All of it. There are prettier series, their are more directly metaphysical and intellectual series, but ultimately Honey & Clover does what a great show should do first and foremost – it connects with you. Or atleast it connected with me, and deeply. Maybe I won’t say that when I’m 30 or 40 or whatever, maybe it’s just tapping a different issue than earlier top favorites of mine did, but I know that either way I hope some one licences this so I can buy it. I haven’t wanted to buy a series this bad for a while.

So Nursehella, A.K.A. Danielle, rolled into Seattle on Wednesday, and it was a blast from start to finish. We pretty much chilled the first half of the first day – had some KFC and 7-Eleven, used some internets, and she listened to OpenSource Lyricist ahead of street date (and she enjoyed it, making me two for two on advance listens for it.) Then after a good night’s rest (I was out on the couch, she was in my bed – my pillows smell like Chanel,) we got some Jack in the Box and recorded our collab. Later, we went to down the Capitol Steps/Optimus Rhyme/mc chris show, and it was fantastical. Got mc’s new CD and got it autographed by Chris and John, and I chatted with the always awesome and friendly Wheelie Cyberman. After the show, it was Denny’s time. Moons over my Hammy with a silly juice/soda drink and great company? That’s how you end an excellent evening if you’re me. Even if I never made anything else out of nerdcore hiphop, the fact I met and befriended a wonderful individual like Nursehella and the fact that people who inspired me to try this know who I am makes it all worth it. Fans, as much as I love the few I have, become the icing on the cake almost, which is probably a good thing. Meanwhile, while I’m stating possibly unpopular opinions in the nerdcore scene, I’m diggin mc chris’ new CD.
PS: Shout out to Feather and her friends, and congrats to her for getting one of mc’s towels and the requisite autograph on it too 😀
