Time to write another lament

So, a staple of the past 4 years of my life, Shojo Beat Magazine, is dead as of the upcoming July issue. Shojo Beat got me through some emotionally difficult times; it was also a monthly highlight that was a delight to pick up; it was a constant that I could buy and enjoy whether I was in Minnesota or California or British Columbia; and perhaps most importantly introduced me to some manga series I’d never have looked into independently. On that note, I never once skipped an issue. I’ve got the whole library in my room, and I’m happy to have it.

So long Shojo Beat Magazine. I’m going to miss it.

• that’s sad news, I learned about a lot of great manga through it also, like Nana and GodChild. Time to hunt down individual series.

• It looks like they’re offering Shonen Jump issues for the rest of any existing subscriptions, but… it’s just not the same! And what will become of my beloved Sand Chronicles? ;-;

• I’m not surprised, after Newtype USA stopped I knew Shojo Beat wouldn’t be far behind. Still sad to see.
